Russells Camp Fire

Unfortunately, we didn’t receive enough snow pack this past winter and it has all melted away.  As a result, this year’s fire season has started way too early for me. We have had a couple of close calls over the last two summers and I tend to get really nervous when I see smoke. (You can see some of the pictures from the close call here: http://www.mywyomingadventure.com/only-you-can-prevent-wildfires/ )

About a week ago, there was a fire in the town of Mills (suburb of Casper.)  The fire spread so quickly with the winds, the firefighters were unable to prevent it from burning four structures.  Two of which were homes.  The fire started because of the wind downing a live power line.

This is the Russells Camp Fire which is burning in Converse County (the neighboring county to me.)

This fire has burned nearly 4000 acres and is only about 10% contained.  The weather has been in the upper 90’s, gusty winds, with low humidity levels.  The short term outlook does not look any better.   The officials have not been able to determine the cause yet due to the behavior of this fire.  I sure hope we don’t have any more fires flare up in other areas, the firefighters need a break.
