Collecting Cast Iron

My husband and I went to a community flea market over the weekend.  We weren’t really looking for anything particular just spending the afternoon together.  I don’t know why, but things made from cast iron kept getting my attention.  Could it be that these heavy items won’t blow away with the wind or maybe they are old and I can relate.  You see, I have several pieces at home and only use one frying pan.  The rest of them are tucked way back in my cupboards never to be appreciated.  Well, for whatever reason, I ended up buying a piece.  It was a griddle and was really worn and had a broken side.  I guess I thought it needed a good home.  When we got home, I cleaned it up a little with the idea I would display it.  I started doing some research and found out the brand of cast iron that I bought was highly collectable.  Who knew?  Surely, I didn’t.  It was quite interesting because my husband decided he would help me with the research.  We spent hours and ended up stopping at 11:00 pm, which is amazing if you knew that 9:00 pm is usually the latest we stay up!  One of the best things that came out of this (other than spending time with my hubby) is that the rest of my cast iron has now been researched and is out proudly on display!  I might even be tempted to use a piece or two!
